Yes - actual nixie tube modules are now available. We're stocking the fantastic and incredibly easy-to-use modules from DFR that not only house a beautiful 20th-century QX-30 single-digit nixie tube, there is also an RGB LED that can create a wonderful backlight effect for the tube. Furthermore - each module has its' own power booster! So you don't need an external HV power supply, just 12V at 100 mA for each module. And the look great - in the image below, three modules are connected together:
Controlling the modules is simplicity in itself, as each contains two 74HC595 shift registers which can be controlled by almost any system including Arduino, PIC, AVR and more. Check out the following demonstraion:
Each module connects flush together without any extra wiring, so putting four together for a clock, or more for data displays is very easy.
Please note that as these tubes stopped being made over twenty years ago, supplies are limited. So if you're thinking about making a cool clock or display - don't think too long, or you'll miss out.
